CAN dump 40kWh Nissan Leaf Gen 3

Post by janosch »

Hi,

attached a CAN dump of a 2018 40kWh Leaf Gen 3. Taken at battery box.

Might be useful for someone. Looks largely identical to the smaller packs according to Johu.

My understanding is that the LBC/BMS sends messages faster than the previous ones.

I want to ask a question that came to mind maybe it will be good and save money.
A BMS from a 24kwh battery can be used with a 40kwh battery by changing the dump in eeprom or processor in the original nissan BMS.
Maybe the same 24kwh bms can be used to control other makes of lithium batteries obviously same voltage and configuration but with higher capacity.
What do you think, has ever someone tried this?
Thanks much

Nissan have spent millions man hours developing a BMS for the battery chemistry used in their vehicles. Given we cannot replicate this effort and the results of getting it wrong are often catastrophic, we recommend using the BMS as intended by the OEM.

If you want to explore this further then can I suggest you post in one of the generic Nissan BMS threads?
In Ireland we undertake training & open source RND for the New Electric group, 5 companies converting boats, buses, cars and trucks to electric drive since 2008.
