That looks so much easier to fit than the model 3 drive unit into a e36, will go well in the e46

I’ve removed some of the gubbins from the subframe and it fits much nicer now.

Almost a perfect fit! Does need to come down and forward a bit, so may have to cut out the bottom of the subframe, and the coolant ports seem to get in the way but apart from that seems pretty good.

If anyone knows anything about removing and re-positioning the oil-water heat exchanger that would be helpful as it does seem to also be in the way

Just unbolt it then you might need to make up and adaptor plate or tap the sdu for AN fittings then you could relocate it to anywhere in the vehicle you like

I've removed it and the subframe does seem to line up better, looks pretty hard to tap into the oil ports on the DU as they're an odd shape, but it does seem to fit alright in the normal position with a little bit more cutting of the subframe

come to the realisation that i think I’m going to have to cut a bit of the under-body to get the DU to fit, otherwise ill have about 5cm ground clearance under the motor

The motor is too long to fit in the gap between the subframe mounting points (silver bits with bolts in the photos)

And too tall to go under the bit circled in red, it would be 26cm tall from that point which protrudes about 10cm under the wheel well

Luckily there’s nothing there in the car, just a gap under the boot. Annoying but dont think i can see another way around it (unless anyone else can)

P.s. anyone know the height of a model 3 motor??

Hope this helps, can get more measurements if needed, only downside with the m3 du is the largest section hangs in front of the axles if your mounting it like it was originally. I need to delete my rear subframe and cut my rear seat floor out partially in a E36 to get it mounted in the best spot.
700mm across at the widest point
680mm front to back longest way
350mm from front of motor to center of axle
340mm total height at highest section
160mm from center of axle to top
These do depend which angle I measure it all on but hopefully enough info to help
