Re: E39e Touring

Since I have my own thread now.. I will put some dumbass questions in it. I like a lot about the Leaf pack - air cooled, comes with contactors and a simple BMS. I would propose to use those contactors. For the BMS - I see Johannes A2 conversion uses it. Why should I not do the same? The 24kwh Leaf p...

E39e Touring

I've been on here for a while now, recently I think Jack Bauer's videos have retriggered this in my brain. Thanks also to the various other people on here who have been very helpful! I'm a software engineer by trade, though generally higher level languages these days, I've done c/c++ in the past. I'...

Re: Anyone doing conversions for customers?

I think you are hoping for a lot to be honest. It does cost more than that to convert with all of the things youve mentioned. But, people do sell their projects, so maybe you'll be lucky.

Re: The ZombieVerter VCU Project

How's the supply chain hardware situation on ZombieVerters? I've been sitting on the fence ordering one for a couple month's knowing some critical components were(are?) back ordered and up to the purchaser to source and assemble. Based on my skill set, I'd prefer ordering one with as complete a boa...

Re: L322 RR Vogue - The beached whale

ah ok, I should have been paying more attention.
I wasnt thinking of 2 modules in a box.
So for 1, maybe 110-120mm .. that might be doable.

Re: L322 RR Vogue - The beached whale

Amazing build quality..
The tm3 modules start off at 8cm high, apart from the positive connection. what is the final height of your battery box? I had been considering trying to get one below the prop of my e39 but I'm thinking its not going to be a runner.

Re: Johannes 9 kW On-Grid project

Very nice, and good that the govt encourages this for so long, building a culture of feeding to the grid. In Ireland even with a feed in tariff, people seem obsessed with batteries, past the point of economic sense ( I mean off the shelf batteries - not DIY ) I've just done install on my house, was ...

Just caught up on this thread - very nice. I'm going a similar way with my e39. Probably it will take a while, even though it will be my only current automotive project. I think I've a similar approach with my project. I'm based in maynooth, I might ping you for advice at some point! I am struggling...

Re: Damien and Fiachra in Irish news again [RTE 28/07/22]

Nice piece and well done guys. I thought Gillian Herbert afterwards was a bit dismissive to be honest. Sure - not everyone is a hobbyist but that's just it - she didn't really engage with the importance of scaling conversion efforts up. There's also other ideas such as mandating manufacturers to pro...

For bench testing ill figure something out, but beyond that.. I'll go and look at some more videos about the grey goose and bexus later. from...

Thanks for the replies. Yep as I thought. I try to avoid scrapyards where possible
And thanks for the line on that, I will give them a shout.
I've watched 2 of your zombieverter videos so far, got the memo on the plugs alright.
Cheers. Order going in for zombieverter today.

450h availability Ireland

in the interests of not hassling one of the main folks directly, can anyone give some tips on hunting for 450h in Ireland?
I'm a bit dubious on what price scrapyards will ask.
If anyone has inverter + gearbox I have cash waiting.
Thanks

holy thread revival. I don't know if this code is in zombieverter yet but I wouldn't mind implementing it myself.
Considering the power available from the 450h motors it would be a nice feature.

Re: Newb Asks: Does heat effect solar power generation?

I'm only a newbie to solar myself, but yes to all of the above. Also you need to break down the problem, reduce the variables/possible causes. My suggestion, run ONE panel at a time for now. Ensure no shading. Ensure the panel is facing the sun. Measure temperature of the panel - a laser temperature...

Re: New starter - Prius MK3 & BMW e46 - tips please

fair point. I think one of the plus points in my head for the leaf conversion ( which you've demonstrated Damian :) ) is having a manual bmw gearbox in the car. Particularly since the car is currently an auto, which has its plusses and minuses.. But yes, the lexus conversion is far more space effici...

Cool, yup any info you can add will be great. Has anyone put prius drivetrain into a bmw yet? Thanks for that link, looking at latutas videos I'm not really encouraged, I was hoping to not need to do a huge amount of soldering, my skills are very basic and my time is limited. Hi, I'm planing ( For a long time ) a fairly similar project, e39 525d touring. When I'm reading this forum, I keep feeling I'm missing a lot. Could you recommend some reading resources? This is very cool. I'm wondering does anyone know a good source of adapter plates to go from the gearbox to the nema b pattern.
Specifically for bmw zf gearboxes. googling but not getting much so far.

Re: BMW CAN Messaging

Yeah I'm in ireland and I'd expect that once abs unit is kept happy that it will go about its business and you wont get lock ups. That's quite aside from the nct who wont verify its operation apart from the warning light. For traction control, we need to keep the light off but it's ultimate function...
