Re: Tesla Gen2 Charger Compatibility and Ebay WARNING

Resurrecting zombie topics! Just in time for Halloween! I recently tried to get a G revision charger from a crashed Tesla to work. No go. It would kind of work but really only one module then that module would click off, then come back, over and over. I replaced the charger with an E revision (took ...

Re: How hard is it to kill a Tesla LDU encoder?

I updated the wiki page for the LDU so you may want to look there. But, one thing I found is that RPM and turns do not change unless the inverter is activated. You can have it in manual mode for that. Just tell the webpage to put the inverter in manual mode and then don't tough the controls for manu...

Re: Chevy BOLT CAN logs

What year Bolt are you looking for captures from? I have a 2022 EUV. I believe some messages may have changed from the earlier models but I can't really confirm that. I can easily capture data from the OBDII port which contains the main powertrain CAN bus. Are you saying there is a different canbus ...

Re: Model 3 High Voltage Controller

The biggest question is how much complexity you need to add to the DC/DC converter. If that's not to much then its an easy gain of energy losses, space , costs etc. Probably not a lot I'd guess. If their DC/DC is already a buck/boost type (or similar) system then it probably can work both direction...

Re: Model 3 High Voltage Controller

I now have contact closure! I needed a capacitor across the HV output presumably to satisfy the charge up time of the precharge process. The contactors take a lot of current at the start and the dcdc converter puts out a lot of voltage too, I saw almost 20v across the battery terminals for a moment...

Sorry the EVTV board came un-programmed. They shouldn't have sent it like that. Over at savvycan.com there is a binary "updater" which actually just flashes precompiled firmware to the board -> https://www.savvycan.com/GVRETupdate.zip you can use that on basically any Arduino Due based boa...

I know WK057 who is behind that company. I think it'd be fair to say that he's one of the most knowledgeable people out there when it comes to Tesla hardware. He's got a proven track record. I believe I was the first person to spin a Tesla Model S drive train outside of a car and he was the second. ...

Don't forget the US and Canada are part of NATO also so I fear a 'stray' missile would cause WW3!!! And that's even worse. Hey Guys, I have a ford E crate Eluminator motor that I plan to FOC tune with the prius gen 3 inverter. Does anyone have experience with this motor? Ford does not provide any information at all with the motor. Especially nothing about the connector or pinout for the resolver connections or the pole...

No, actually it worked fine! I'm just an idiot. Here is the short version: I used a dual serial port chip on that board. The first port connects to the ESP32. The second port connects... nowhere by default. It used to be connected to the ESP32 also but it took up pins we wanted to use for other thin...

You can use the binary at www.savvycan.com to get a good, working copy. Ok so this seems like a dumb question, but I've downloaded the ESP32RET firmware updater from SavvyCAN, and when I try to open the application, it flashes on my screen briefly and then disappears. Is that normal behavior? It se...

The problem is that the Arduino-ESP32 board files updated the WiFi library and it breaks the existing ESP32RET codebase. You can use the binary at www.savvycan.com to get a good, working copy. I ought to update the github repo to fix this problem. I knew about it but haven't gotten around to fixing ...

Re: Reverse engineering the LEAF resolver offset writing

For the curious - the Leaf speaks UDS when it is doing things like this. UDS, in the case of CAN, is transmitted using ISO-TP which is a protocol layer on top of raw CAN. ISO-TP uses the first byte for a variety of uses but one of them is to specify how many bytes follow. So, when you see 0x02 as th...

Re: ZombieVerter VCU Support

I did probe around but found no voltages after pin 1 of IC11. I suspect that IC11 is faulty If it is installed the proper direction and you're getting power to pin 1 then you would expect some power elsewhere. The pin 2 should be PWM'ing into the inductor. If you have the means to remove it you mig...

Thanks Collin80, Yes, that is the way, however, I though you had to take the diode out of the board first. Re: The Tesla LDU traction control thread ?.

What about the easiest approach? A limited slip differential is available for the LDU. If you put one of those in you get traction on both sides and thus your ability to run it into a tree or concrete barrier is diminished without having to do any fancy software tricks. But, yes there is some worry ...

Re: problems of forming a sinusoidal current

I checked on this engine at the factory inverter, the sine is normal, but it is at a lower voltage, so I put more dead time in mine. Perhaps because of this. Dead time is merely to prevent shoot through, not meant to lower the voltage. Think of it this way: in a motor controller there are four big ...

Re: problems of forming a sinusoidal current

The answers can be complicated. To some extent it depends on the motor you are using. The only way that PWM output is going to look like a sine wave is if something with capacitance or inductance smooths the PWM into a smoother shape. It is possible that your motor doesn't quite have enough inductan...
