Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?

Yes, I have made that for the second generation CSCs; the ones with one white plastic master and five black plastic slave CSCs. I've not checked to see if the first gen (all the same black CSCs I believe) have the same pin out. Which one do you have? I made a mock up of a module using 32 AAA batteri...

Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?

Interesting. Someone in this topic has managed to engage the small relay on the board in the BMS which is related to that either a self test or connection to the bus. So possibly hopeful but I’ve not had the time to work on that. Would be great to get that working. ISO Bender units for this are ~€50...

Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?

I don't think so. The S-Box has been decoded for CAN message coming out for current, pack voltage and DC bus voltage successfully as noted further up in this topic. I and others hard wired the contactors to an open BMS like SimpBMS so you know exactly what is happening with them. Note also mentioned...

Re: Outlander front transaxle and inverter 3D scans?

Looks interesting inside! Thanks for sharing that. I posted the pressure and external port above to actuate the hydraulic clutch. Welding up certainly simpler, just you may then have a lot more losses at higher speed so may hurt range? Not so much mechanical losses but electrical losses as the PM ge...

Re: Outlander front transaxle and inverter 3D scans?

Wasn't so easy to make it all fit. The Panda brake booster is rather large and the pipes around the master cylinder are all over the place, which I don't want to touch, but I think I've got it all in. Equal length driveshafts don't seem possible. I might need to extend the inverter<>power cables. I ...

Re: Outlander front transaxle and inverter 3D scans?

Interesting, thanks. I've built a simple transaxle model in 360 and found a Panda CAD model and it looks like it fits... Just about. Not much room for the inverter - my next challenge. Re: Outlander front transaxle and inverter 3D scans?

Thanks Tom, do you know what leads to that limitation? I've had the generator accelerating unloaded in both directions, and it makes a slightly difference noise one way compared to the other in testing so far. (Drive motor makes same noise in both directions.) Makes sense, they would have no need to...

Re: Outlander front transaxle and inverter 3D scans?

You've inspired me to test the generator! Yes I can spin that as well thanks to Damian's info here: https://github.com/damienmaguire/Outlander-PHEV These drives are very smooth and quiet I think. Anyway, yes, I was thinking about using the generator drive also. I've only 5 BMW 26Ah PHEV modules so I...

Re: Outlander front transaxle and inverter 3D scans?

Thanks very much, but its not worth that effort - I'll get my tape measure out. I asked just to check it someone had it to hand. I'll share whatever models I end up generating. Well, it was cheap... And my Panda is tiny and light. Looking at the tractive effort from the Panda's 1.2L engine and the O...

Outlander front transaxle and inverter 3D scans?

Hi, has anyone taken a 3D scan of the Outlander front transaxle and inverter? Just wondering, before I build basic CAD models to package my Panda. Re: I bought a BMW 530e onboard battery charger - now what?

Possibly HVIL (High Voltage Interrupt Loop)? The mating part of the connector shorts them out or takes the loop on another journey to another connector. If the whole loop is conducting end to end, it means all the connectors are in and secure. It runs all around the HV system, sometimes critical low...

Re: Can Messages needed to get the rear outlander inverter to work - WIKI?

Note- if you have the OEM charger on the same CAN bus as the inverter you might hit problems as it also sends messages on some of those id's. Can you tell us which MSGs are overlapping? Also by any chance do you see which bytes are clashing together? Could just require tune up of some of the byte v...

only 18.2 kWh as these packs are only 9.1 each, by my guestimate 18.2 kWh times 3.5 miles per kW will give me roughly a 63.7 mile range, and my goal is 100 miles, so one more of these packs under the bed and I'm golden That might be a bit optimistic... You can only really use 75-80% of that capacit...

Took about 2 weeks and fits perfectly and looks to be reasonable quality. How do they sell these so cheaply!?

Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?

Ref Turbopete's question, the Vin pin is really the 5V out from USB connection, just for that test. So the laptop is directly powering the modules over USB 5V. The Teensy has an on-board regulator from that same 5V down to 3.3V, but that is not used to power the CSCs on the modules. In the real appl...

Thanks arber, that helped me search better. Looking at Italian stockists, it seems "radiator hose" is thinner wall than "heater hose". I've asked these UK guys as this seems to have the right specification. https://therubbercompany.com/hose-ducting/automotive-hoses/radiator-hose ...

Hi, just jumping in this thread with a low tech question if I may: where are you getting flexible 19mm id hose? I've tried eBay and got some "flexible radiator hose" 19mm id, but its 28mm od. It is almost solid. Unusable really. I've some old real automotive hose from a BMW rad circuit whi...

Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?

I tried, but no, I couldn't get the S-BOX to close the contactors over CAN. I hard wired them to my BMS like bobby_come_lately. I do use the current (ID 0x200), pack voltage (ID 0x210) and DC Bus voltage (ID 0x220) data from the S-BOX, which is fantastic quality and integrates well with SimpBMS. Exc...

That is great work aot93, thanks for sharing everything. Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?

The SBOX spits out CAN messages that give you current and voltage for the pack and DC bus. Attached is a DBC file for SavvyCAN that can de-code it. There is a picture in an earlier post from me on page 8 in this thread on how to connect 12V and get to the CAN bus. Note, the Can H and Can L may be sw...
