Re: [DRIVING] - Z3(00)

The BMS now controls mine, just pinging out the relevant canbus messages when it's all plugged in. Is yours overheating maybe? Outlander heater too. Had a horrible thought when I spotted the snow: when I put some fluids in to test the loop, months ago, did I put in anti-freeze or just water? Can't r...

Re: [DRIVING] - Z3(00)

Minor update: finally got around to instituting proper charging with the Spaceballs/Simp BMS. - Plug in charge cable - @JamieJones' PP detect circuit turns on main power and signals BMS to go into charge mode - BMS sends start signal to inverter (12v high - my OI/EVBMW board in there still refusing ...

Re: [DRIVING] - Z3(00)

Thought I'd do a quick update with some pics on where I'm up to. Still a long way to go but I'm really happy with how it's looking. New wheels are on (17in BBS split rims with 235x55 Nexen rubber, all done by Evolution Coatings in Irlam), new seats are repaired and installed (from BMW Spares Scotlan...

Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?

It's the bench pack I'm working on. One in the car seems fine. And as far as I can tell, none of the ones on the bench is working. It's really weird. Like I say, I'm probably doing something really stupid but I can't work out what it is.

Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?

Pulled open one of the CSCs and did a continuity test for CAN H/L, 5V and GND between there are the BMS. All coming through fine. 120 ohm between H and L. They've definitely not had 12V. There's probably a really stupid explanation that I'm missing but stumped if I know what it is. Thanks for your h...

Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?

If savvy can is on the bus with the modules and the BMS which ids are present? all modules broadcast a "status" regardless if they are being requested by the BMS. There is a possibility you messed up you CAN wiring. lacking termination resistor could be an issue it does not have to be. Th...

Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?

See above for context (idiot hacking around), and below for evidence. I had an issue on my test/second pack where on start-up the BMS was only recognising one module. When I went through the debug process it would then recognise all five. I wondered if the issue was resistance on the canbus, since t...

As per post in the Simp BMS thread https://openinverter.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=61882#p61882 Another opensource project has been started using the SimpBMS code as a base https://github.com/bookofthefuture/BMWPhevBMS-ESP32-master Ofcourse there is always the option of purchasing an EVS-BMS, my lat...

Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?

Ha! I'm all about the ESP32s now. Cheap and (so far) reasonably robust. Even when you put 12V on the 3v3 line... Back on batteries, I have probably killed one of my modules in my second pack. Not sure how, but some cells down at 1.49v. Can't remember if this is the pack I did an accidental range tes...

Ha! You will be well ahead of me.

Having major BMS issues with these packs at the moment. Can get my old Teensy to talk to them but not the ESP32 Jamie and co have been working on. Will get there but frustrating.

Re: Z3(00)

Fairly sure the only requirements are working indicator and high beam tell tales no engine warning light illuminated and if abs and airbags are present these lights must illuminate and then go out. Even EML is not a fail on an EV-swapped car. Nor is ASC/stability control light staying illuminated.

Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?

yes the thing that makes me want to go 300h as opposed to the 450h is the weight and the oil pump but no one seems to have any info on the driveability of the 300h and I can't keep throwing money around also updated my location :) You might be waiting a while (until I have a garage again), but I ha...

Re: Z3(00)

MOT passed! Took flippin' ages because of parts delays and a medical emergency at the garage, but got there in the end yesterday. Just done the first serious run to take one of the kids to a class. Little bit of whine from the coupler but otherwise good. Some tuning to do but performance feels good.

Re: Z3(00)

Bloody ages since my last update. Not long after the last one my landlord told me he wanted the garage back. So instead of finishing the car I spent two months moving everything into storage. I haven't been able to find another garage so eventually (after being very grump for a month or two) I decid...

Re: Prius Gen 3 - 3D Printed Parts

I'd guess you want as few mating surfaces as possible for moisture to get in to. I've also used off the shelf parts at other points - you can buy brass standoffs without the lip from ebay at different lengths. Be easy enough to mod the design?

Can't find that one on the github. Can you post a link to which one you mean?
