Ford Fusion Inverter Reverse Engineering

Started messing around with the inverter and this is what I've discovered so far, made a video because it would probably take longer to write down haha. Already shorted out the boost igbt so kinda sad about that. It's a 30 minute video If you don't wanna watch basically so far I've figured that you ...

Re: Ford Fusion Hybrid inverter what is this?

Nice pics! Could you just throw in a Prius power module from the Gen2? Of course then the bus bars don't fit nicely. Maybe, the footprint seems to be standard but I think the Prius one is significantly taller so might be a pain to modify the busbars. Regardless I kind of have no use for this invert...

Re: Ford Fusion Hybrid inverter what is this?

Here's some close up pics of the main board. It's crazy how detailed the Toshiba engineers are given the amount of test points they put, and -most- are labeled enough to understand. Except the boost converter and that threw me for a loop. Also some measurements and pics of random stuff if anyone is ...

Ford Fusion Hybrid inverter what is this?

So I saw an ad for a 2014 Fusion inverter for $60 locally, figured why not try to figure out if it's usable or not, since the only teardown I've seen online is by Weber auto. And well, I figured out the gate drive pwm signals for the main gate driver board, and then decided to try the boost converte...

Re: Drive units with failed inverters

Hmm interesting premise. I'm planning on putting a GS450H in my ol' Thunderbird (already have the trans/inverter) because the LDU's around here seem to be big dollars. If I could get one though with a blown inverter, preferably with the whole rear subframe, I wonder if the GS450H inverter could be ...

Re: OzInverter Build

Haha I figured you were looking into home power AC inverters, saw one of those chinese diy ones on your bench on the GS300h video you made a couple days ago. I've always been fascinated with the idea of going fully off grid but as always I kind of take it a little too far, and end up biting SLIGHTLY...

Re: Grid Tie Inverters - What's the difference?

Those are the high frequency transformers, most high frequency inverters like this work this way: 1. low voltage dc is pulsed into these transformers at very high frequency with a bunch of low-ish voltage MOSFETS. This allows a lot of power to be put through the transformers without requiring a huge...

Re: IGBT Gate Driver help needed

OH it finally just hit me that the driver for the top gate needs to have a reference to the CE voltage in the middle of the Half bridge, so you HAVE to have either an isolated DC-DC converter or a gate driver with a built-in reference like the Vs in the IR2110? After looking at the datasheet of the ...

Re: IGBT Gate Driver help needed

I connected them raw to the egs002 module just messing around (12v 1.5A current limited of course). To be honest I have never used an oscilloscope before and it doesn't help this one is ancient as well haha. So I don't really know what I'm looking at, but here's the AC output of the H-Bridge. It see...

Re: IGBT Gate Driver help needed

The openinverter design uses a 5A driver these days, the Si8261BCC with 4.7 Ohm resistors. Even with the 2.5A version I ran the 1200V/400A bricks in Polo for 8 years. Also 600V/600A bricks have been used successfully. There are other options for a similar price that offer more protection features, ...

IGBT Gate Driver help needed

Hello, I'm working on making an inverter, funny enough not to move a vehicle but rather to turn ~350Vdc into ~220Vac, single phase, 60hz. Seems simple enough. My main goal is to have the whole system be as simple and straightforward as possible, with the least amount of components to have a working,...

Re: Re-wiring induction motors for more power

That looks interesting, if only the operating voltage was able to be lowered. It seems like the guy got 36hp out of it at 96v. After doing the delta mod. I mean like I might be able to get another module for 18s but hell, that's a lot of battery and it would only be 66v nominal, though at 1000A peak...

Re-wiring induction motors for more power

So I've been trying to delve into the world of EVs, and theres a lot of questions. I was toying with the idea of making an electric motorcycle, since I managed to get my hands on two very cheap Tesla 5.3kwh modules. So after been doing a bit of research online and on Alibaba, it seems like the price...

Can the Openinverter run permanent magnet motors?

I understand that the Openinverter is based on 3 phase induction motors, but I haven't seen anything explicitly saying whether or not it can properly run a permanent magnet BLDC style motor, somewhat like the leafs. Or would I be barking up the wrong tree?

Re: Any Tangible Project Ideas?

As for a powerwall, we have a backup generator and I don't think it will be of much service, since at night with AC's off we are still pulling around 3kW. A speedboat has been given some thought but considering the inefficiency of planing boats, you'd be lucky to get 20 miles out of a full 85kwh pac...

Any Tangible Project Ideas?

So I recently came across an offer that was too good to pass up on: 2-tesla 5.3kwh modules for $500 each. They weren't flushed of coolant and thus a couple of drops got into the plastic trays and the humidity caused some very slight surface rust, but I have since then completely dried them out and t...

Re: Shipping Tesla 5.2kwh Battery modules [SOLVED]

I read up on the regulations of FedEx and USPS and FedEx allows for packages up to 66lb with li ion only in the contiguous 48 states, but it's considered as the UN3481 as the cells are installed in equipment. I would just need to put the stickers on stating that and properly pack the box (which I al...

Shipping Tesla 5.2kwh Battery modules [SOLVED]

Has anyone had experience in shipping these, particularly in the US? I'm selling 2 on eBay and there's a guy from the US Virgin Islands that wants to buy them, but I am pretty sure that USPS won't accept the package considering its 55lb of lithium-ion cells. And FedEx doesn't ship there. I don't min...

2014 P85 Performance LDU (South Florida)

So uhh... I kind of spontaneously bought this motor for $3000 without really considering the investment it would take (both time and money) to put it to use, and I'm a full-time college student. Anyways, it's a performance (sport) unit from a crashed 2014 P85. I don't know the specific miles but it'...
