Re: [FIRST DRIVE] Upcycling a Suzuki Samurai
I think this project is the first on the forum to combine an ACIM and the Prius Gen2 (there have been a couple to use the Gen3 and the Siemens Motor), so this may be of some broader interest (equally may be me just being a noob). I've had the car driving for about a month now, but only in test capac...

Re: Upcycling a Suzuki Samurai
Some small progress to update on: - Last weekend I went to a nearby breaker's yard and got a radiator from a Toyota IQ. Compared to most modern cars the Samurai is tiny and this was about the only one that would fit the space available. I mounted it in the car yesterday, next weekend I'll plumb it i...

Re: Prius Gen2 adapter board development thread
again, udclim ? Set it to 500 or so The voltage reading is now off but was correct before? Thanks for the response Johu. I just got the chance to test again today. I updated the UDCLIM to 500v, and had the car shuddering back and forward as I tried some different combinations of boost and fweak. Mo...

Re: Prius Gen2 adapter board development thread
Thanks for the reponse Johu! UDC is reading as 108.71 volts, pack voltage on multimeter is 244 volts, UDCMIN is 0, UDCMAX is 300. I dropped the UDCSW to 100v to get rid of the Precharge error in the screenshot below. My current line of inquiry is that the main contactor was already faulty but that t...

Re: Prius Gen2 adapter board development thread
I've had a few misadventures lately and haven't quite gotten to the bottom of them. Now I turn to the oracle for guidance. A few weeks back, using a 180v pack and without tuning, I had my car rolling (shuddering) back and forward. This weekend I set about increasing the voltage and tuning the parame...

Re: Upcycling a Suzuki Samurai
From the depths of hell, the Samurai lives! Yesterday I got it moving under EV power for the first time (see low def parent video of rusty car linked below). It's been a long time since I wrote a post here. Absence largely due to difficulty getting body panels to repair rust (still being held up as ...

Re: Dublin DIY EV Meetup at Tog Hackerspace 26/02/23
I will absolutely attend! Fair play for getting this going. No chance I'll have the samurai there unfortunately. On the off chance anyone is shipping spare parts, I'm looking to get some HV cable, brake booster pump and a car side type two connector. Would happily pay a forum member vs ebay. Looking...

Re: Upcycling a Suzuki Samurai
I also have a Gen2 Toyota Hilux Surf (4runner) that has a diesel leak and I would love to convert. Any ideas on that from the community would be great. Currently watching the Beached Whale build with strong interest. Past the point of no return now 8-) Looking good That's the hilux in the backgroun...

Re: Upcycling a Suzuki Samurai
Wish I could add something useful to the thread. Just wanted to mention I have a Siemens 1PV5135 motor on the way and am very much looking forward to your future posts. Will soon order an OI board and potentially a Prius inverter. In a separate note, I really like the idea of converting a Suzuki Sa...

Re: Audi A2 /w Prius Gen2 Transaxle & Inverter [FINISHED]
Tested again, now they are holding up. Must have been some experimentation transient that killed them. Ok nice, glad you didn't have to do any surgery. I also note now that my ~96v lead acid test pack seems to just be measuring 25v on the DC bus! I'll get another pack on the weekend and see if that...

Havent ended up just eating Zoe with a 22kwh pack I got a loan of. Where did you get a Zoe pack from? I have been looking for one for a long time as a have a rolling damaged Zoe. I got it from a breaker in Tipp about 2 years ago. It wasn't a usual for them though, they just happened to have it. Wou...

Nothing on 22kwh just yet but now have a fluence ze pack too that I can use to test with Zoe. Also have a line on a 40kwh pack so intrested in seeing what has changed from a can perspective. Well, paaa. Have you had a chance to get any further with the Zoe kit? I've a 22kwh pack complete with BMS a...

Re: Fried my Precharge Resistors [SOLVED]
OK guys so I couldn't find a filament lamp in the house so after swapping the polarity and triple checking I just went for it and reconnected through a new 50R 100W resistor and nothing bad happened. In fact nothing happened at all so either I fried something (hopefully not) or I need to close a co...

Re: Upcycling a Suzuki Samurai
At long last, got the first throttle controlled spin of the Siemens motor today. I spent all weekend trying to get the encoder wired correctly. Thanks Arber and Isaac for suggestions with that. Turns out that the connector plug I have isn't giving a reliable contact, which was the cause for much of ...

Re: Prius Gen2 adapter board development thread
Thanks Arber, another great flashing light test! It's an open collector output, and when I connected the resistor and LED across 12v and channel A it worked just as you described. LED blinks as shaft rotated. Repeating the same test for channel B yielded no result, however. So I think there is some...

Re: Prius Gen2 adapter board development thread
In my experience with the Siemens 1PV5135, a 12v supply to the encoder was safe for the OpenInverter board. (With a couple small filter capacitors just for extra smoothing). Yup, same ground. Thanks Isaac. Unfortunately still stumped. By using the +5v and the primary ground on the board (same as 12...

Re: Prius Gen2 adapter board development thread
I wasn't getting any change in voltage between GND and either channel. The voltage was just 3.57v across 5V and GND, so I reckoned that was a bit low. That's mildly concerning. 5V should really measure 5V. These encoders are open-collector type, meaning they connect to ground when the channel is 'a...

Re: Prius Gen2 adapter board development thread
Hmm. You can use a voltmeter to do some testing of an encoder. With it hooked up and powered on, stick the meter between a channel and ground. Turn the motor a bit and you should see a change (might go high to low and then back, but some change should be visible). I assume SJ1 and SJ2 are for pullu...

Re: Prius Gen2 adapter board development thread
Thanks Johu, that makes sense. I've just gone out and tested in manual mode again. Setting fslipsnt to 0 fixes that problem. I'm still doing something wrong though, as now when I connect the plug and turn the output shaft of the motor there is no change in the angle value. I disassembled the encoder...

A while back I was able to successfully spin my Siemens ACIM in manual mode with the Prius Gen2 and V1 of the adapter board. I'm now attempting to connect the encoder and throttle. As always I'm having some difficulty, and would greatly appreciate any help! Here's what I've done: 1. Solder closed th...

Re: 1PV5131 Siemens Motor
Hi Stephen, did you order the encoder plug and caps for the phase wire inputs for this motor yet? I've been looking on Radionics and there are several M23 12 pin connectors that **could** work, but hard to tell if they're a match. Mine is a 1PV5135, but I'm sure the connectors should be the same. Th...

Re: Upcycling a Suzuki Samurai
Finally been able to make some progress with this build. I've done exactly nothing on it for almost a year, but after some staring time over the past few days I've started to hit milestones. - I rebuilt the circuit of: Gen2 Prius inverter - OI VCU - 12v battery - 12v "HV" battery - lightbu...
