Re: Charging one battery from another as an alternative to parallel packs.
I was actually thinking a lot about this recently, and I'm glad someone made a thread! My thought was to use a larger pack in a race trailer/tow rig for charging at the track, and was trying to figure out a safe way to do that, (without the inefficiencies of going battery to inverter to ac charger t...

Re: Axle Removal
SO built a slide hammer attachment that allowed me to pull directly on the adapters, and no luck. I got the case open the 1/2" that it is able with the adapters in, and tried applying pressure from the back side of the axle, no luck. I tried combinations of those, and with/without the axle fork...

Re: Tesla's NACS and the Future of Fast Charging in North America
What about folks with a NACS/Tesla charger at home (I.e., wall or mobile connectors)? I assume these units lack all of the payment gateway/authorization stuff... I think that is correct, they're basically AC charging with a different pinout, I think? I know I saw discussion elsewhere on switching b...

Re: High pitched noise from drive unit
No, the noise only reappears when the car cools down after being parked for a while. During long trips, the noise does’t return between supercharges. That, combined with the frequency not varying with speed, indicates to me that this is not coming from the drive unit. It's coming from some other sy...

Re: Axle Removal
But it will be a challenge getting it jigged up in such a way as to apply the force in the right direction Yeah that's a huge part of the issue, the axle is so far inboard on the Tesla case that getting force onto it correctly is a challenge. The geometry of the back side of the adapters makes the ...

I have an OEM LDU board, not certain if it'd work for the RAV4 LDU. Shoot me a PM with how much you can pay, and we'll work something out.

Axle Removal
I'm coming to the forum with this because I have exhausted the rest of the internet's ideas. I've put this in general since its applicable to most CV axles. I'm trying to remove the adapter plates from my Tesla LDU. These are the Zero EV/Felten/Amprevolt LDU to Porsche 930 adapters. They are held in...

Re: High pitched noise from drive unit
the noise completely vanishes after a supercharge. Does it come back as SOC decreases, or does it only come back after a Level 1/2 charge? And it’s audible only during cruising (when the FDU is idle). That's interesting. Does everyone who has this issue agree that it is coming from the front of the...

Re: High pitched noise from drive unit
Given that it doesn't change frequency with speed, I am very skeptical that it is caused by any rotating components such as a bearing. In my opinion, that points to the inverter itself and likely its switching frequency. That could also explain Tesla's refusal to replace the units. Likely, they init...

Re: High pitched noise from drive unit
Ok, follow up question - does the sound change pitch relative to speed? You note that most hear it above 50mph, but does it change as the speed varies?

Re: [DRIVING] 1940 Chevrolet with Tesla Motor
Well the Base unit is fighting just about as hard as it can to avoid me installing the Sport unit. I got it out of the car relatively easily, though I did realize halfway through that I needed to raise the car another 3 notches on the jack stands to get my hydraulic table under the front of the unit...

Re: Openinverter Tesla LDU logic board with Rav4 EV
I suppose you could in theory, if you repin the harness that connects to the car, can emulate the CAN messages to the car, and can modify the car to provide the info the OI board needs. The table here compares the OEM pinout to the OI pinout on the Tesla units, I presume the version for the Rav4 was...

Try swapping the encoder wires.ImportFanatiK wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2024 9:29 pm
It technically did spin (extremely slowly and very jiggly) but blew the 60A fuse twice.

Re: Tesla LDU Bench Test: turns slowly, cogs, but has good Hall signal
I had a chance to work on the motor this morning. I swapped the wires and it worked pretty much perfectly: Congrats! It cogs a little at the very start, but I'm putting that down to it not having anything attached to the shafts and that I was very slowly increasing the power. Yeah that's something ...

Re: LDU selection for reliability / rebuildability?
I don't think there's a specific revision that is "better" than others. Earlier revisions had some bearing problems unrelated to the leaks, and all have the potential for leaks. What I would advise is doing as much due diligence on the specific unit as possible. Obviously with Ebay listing...

Re: [DRIVING] 1940 Chevrolet with Tesla Motor
These old ldu seem to be fairly problematic! The power tho… Yeah that's the catch-22 - great power for relatively cheap (thanks to Damien and his OI board design), but with the longevity problems of a product designed by Tesla. I'm really hoping Lucid succeeds, just so we can get our hands on their...

Re: Theoretical Question regarding Fweak
Raising fweak doesn't raise top end performance. It stretches out the constant torque region but at a lower level Ok, but would it enable the constant torque region to be extended by dynamically shifting fweak? I may be grasping at straws here, but it was an idea I had for how to get the launch ben...

Re: [DRIVING] 1940 Chevrolet with Tesla Motor
From powering it up this weekend, I discovered one phase is showing a fault, likely a bad gate driver, so the base LDU is coming out. I also discovered coolant in the encoder, so that unit needs a full rebuild. I need to do some repair and maintenance on the Sport LDU before it goes in, and may have...
