Re: killed gs450h inverter
That inverter is not from a 3rd Gen GS, might be from a newer model?

Re: Suitable Precharge resistor for GS450h inverter
I stuck a 40ohm unit from an Outlander PHEV on mine and monitored the current, it peaked at 17A and dropped to a few amps in just a few seconds, that seemed fine for me, so I went with that. It's essentially an RC circuit, the capacitor value in the inverter is known, and the capacity of your inline...

It's shown on the wiring diagrams from Toyota. Both sides of this solenoid are exposed in the connector. Probably to reduce interference as this is PWM controlled.

Re: 450h inverter ohms?
It's a CAN bus, there's a 120 ohm termination resistor in the inverter, and your controller will have another within it, bringing the total resistance down to 60 ohms are required by the spec.

Re: Prius Gen 2 EPAS - Electric Power Assist Steering
Did anyone ever figure out the CAN messages for these? I've got one as well, IIRC the current method has to just let them time out and go into a failsafe mode, which gives basic control, but you lose functions such as variable assist.

The outer braid is needed on any VFD-driven motor cables to reduce EMI. There should be an uninterrupted faraday cage from beginning to end, the inverter and transmission casing, along with this braid, fulfil that. Re: Lexus GS450h Inverter OEM Battery & AC Connector Delete
All of the stuff in the top can come out if you're not using the converter. As far as I know, nobody is using the converter. The converter would be useful for someone running a higher voltage pack, who wants to power 320-350v things like a DCDC converter, AC pump, or heater. The wiring harness throu...

Re: Lexus GS450h Oil Pump Controller Stock OEM Wire Harness n stuff
You can always buy terminals of the correct size, push them on, then fill the space with epoxy, then add your own connectors. This isn't uncommon in motorsport, where they want to use OEM parts, but want to keep their connectors consistent, or don't have access to the OEM connectors.

Re: Emergency Stop Wiring
I just stumbled on this while searching for another topic. This falls within my field of work, so I might be able to shed some light on the matter. Emergency stop systems should be designed such that the user must not need to consider the repercussions of using the emergency stop function. That is, ...

Re: Lexus GS450h Oil Pump Controller Stock OEM Wire Harness n stuff
Nice writeup. The easiest option is to buy a pump controller from a breaker which includes that connector and a pigtail (not uncommon as dismantlers often just cut the cables to parts). The wires can then be extended.

There's also generic ones like this:

Not sure if they're strong enough, though. They are a bit squishy. Maybe the biggest ones would be good.

The inverter puts out the same voltage as you feed into it. You don't need 650V, it's perfectly usable on 320V ish,

Re: Registering and changing tax class of an EV conversion in the UK
So just the R100 testing, not R10 (EMC) as well?
Are there any places in the UK which provide these services with the general public / home conversions in mind? Last I heard, such testing was out of reach of the public, designed for car manufacturers, etc.

Quick question which is related to this, not sure if it's worth it's own thread. Does anyone have any insight on if there would be difficulty registering a newly made "kit" car, or custom built vehicle (on a Q plate) which contains an EV powertrain? Would there be issues regarding inspecti...

Recommend an AC onboard charger for 2023
Hi all, I'm looking at starting another EV project, I have a full set of components ready to go, however the 48A (2 module)Tesla Gen3 charger which I previously purchased for a project has an issue - of of the resistors near the AC inlet blows off each of the two modules whenever AC is connected. I'...

Re: Communicating with the Lexus GS450h Inverter/Converter
I based my assumption on the IC pinout and the logic levels as well. Could easily be another type of transceiver.
The fact that CAN transceivers at the other end seem to work perfectly to communicate with this unit is another thing in favour of the theory that it's CAN transceivers in there.
