Even though this project hasn't really started yet, I started to gather some CAN logs from my Volvo S60: https://github.com/damienmaguire/Volvo-V70-P2-CAN-Reverse-Engineering/tree/main/2002 Volvo S60 B5244S2 M56
Perhaps someone wants to play around with it as well?

Re: Tesla Model 3 Rear Drive Unit Hacking
Damien confirmed that Pin 16 (SENSE) and Pin 13 (GNDISO) of the High Side Drivers are connected on the original Tesla M3DU boards.
That would be supporting my hypothesis.

Re: Tesla Model 3 Rear Drive Unit Hacking
That wasn't my understanding. The way they seem to work is that the commands are processed by the first chip in the chain. If the command is valid (using the CRC I think) the first chip then passes through subsequent bits to the next chip in the chain. The process resets when the ~CS~ pin is ...

Copy&Paste from Discord:
I think I might have an idea. So the DESAT circuit of the high side makes sense:
- GNDISO is at the source potential of the IGBTs through the 56R resistors,
- the drain of the IGBTs is connected to HV+,
- the DESAT circuit is now approximately as in the datasheet, with the ...

Re: Tesla Model 3 Rear Drive Unit Hacking
From what I can gather the initialisation is completing successfully and is reading OK status values from each of the STATUS1,2 and 3 registers (it returns 0x000C in all cases). I'm surprised it is posting GATEDRIVEFAULT or GATEDRIVEINITFAIL errors.
No, it is returning 0x08 on STATUS1, 0x04 on ...

Re: Tesla Model 3 Rear Drive Unit Hacking
Clock looks sensible now. I'm still seeing odd values in the SPI decode. For example at 1s 854ms the driver is trying to send 0x9DD6 six times to write CFG2 register but this is decoding as 0x0DD6 and 0x1DD6 sometimes. From the behaviour this looks to be a capture artifact.
The analyzer ...

Also notable that reading out the registers after writing results in 0xAA for all of them. Perhaps it is indeed a timing thing.

Even though it is not self made, it is worth mentioning that you can buy brand new CCS connectors from TE at your local electronics distributor for (IMO) a resonable price (315€ incl. VAT): for example: https://www.mouser.de/ProductDetail/TE-Connectivity/2375502-2?qs=doiCPypUmgHstsjJsyVW8w%3D%3D ...

The results look really nice and I don't want to be that guy, but be careful when zinc plating bolts (or parts in general). They can lose a lot of their original strength due to hydrogen embrittlement.

Also, I suppose Damien's head just doesn't work that way, but, the lunch buffet of parameter nomenclature makes what little programming ability I have want to shrivel up and cry in a corner. That is nice but they were really stuck. I got them out before with no issues.
The CV axles are held in place with a little ring/clip (it seems to be missing in your pictures above, but you can see the grove in the shaft. BTW... did the clip come out or is it still inside the differential?).
If ...

Could ID 5EA require the magic byte cracker of @crasbe ?
That does not appear to be the case. 5EA is mostly static and does not have a counter, I would even say it does not have a CRC.
