After a brief break due to a spot of cancer I am back on the project!
Parts have been trial fitted to the car (Smart Roadster) and now I have the job of wiring it all up neatly before stripping it all out and cleaning it up.

Mitsubishi Outlander Rear Inverter (REMCU)
I anyone in need of a Mitsubishi Outlander rear inverter?
I have a spare that I have had knocking around for a while.
I am UK based and open to offers.

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
Have a look at the SimpBMS manual for the info. https://github.com/Tom-evnut/SimpBMS/blob/master/Simp%20BMS%20Setup%20Manual%20V0.29.pdf I did, and while it gives a brief description of the variables it does not fully describe their interactions and effects on the different stages of the process. I...

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
So I see that the charge hysteresis actually defines the where the battery will charge to. Setpoint of 4100mV minus the hysteresis of 0.2V gets me to 3900mV. What was more alarming is that when I plugged in today it wouldn't even pull the contactors in because it was above 3900mV (slightly) I bumped...

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
Setpoint is at 4100mV so I assumed that it would head for this. If this is not the case I will have a play and increase it slightly.....EV_Builder wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 11:38 am This is typical Voltage setpoint a bit too low. Current can only flow if voltage is risen. But don't go above cell limits.

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
Someone has reported that it only takes notice of the voltage set point once (on wiki) and the 12v needs to be removed to reset. I've not tested that, I just have my BMS taper the current as the highest cell gets closer to the voltage setpoint I have been trying to charge my pack for the first time...

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
OK, I have a question........ In the code the message 377 is decoded void canRX_377(const CAN_message_t &msg) { charger12vbattryVolts = float(((msg.buf[0] * 256) + msg.buf[1]) * 0.01); charger12vCurrent = float(((msg.buf[2] * 256) + msg.buf[3]) * 0.01); chargerTemp1 = msg.buf[4] - 40; chargerTem...

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
That current spike is not something I have seen, are those values from the charger or from the BMS current sensor? are you using a CAN bus current sensor (LEM CAB300/500) ? If your 12V battery is shot then it could be worth just hard wiring the DC-DC enable to keep it on. That is from the BMS Curre...

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
Well.......it turns out that when it is below freezing in the garage you need to change the low temperature derate from 0 to something below the cell temps :) I changed it to -3 and would you believe that the cells started to charge! I dont have any coolant at the moment so shut off when the charger...

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
My cable has arrived, but I dont appear to be getting any charging current :( When I plug the cable in the prox pilot does its thing and puts the BMS in to charge status (3) and the VCU in to charging status (6).The dash green light is flashing and the contactors are pulling in but I dont see any AC...

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
I have been able to get the BMS and VCU in charging state :D Have ordered a charging cable to plug in to our existing wall box so hopefully soon I will be able to get some current flowing in to the batteries! Any tips on the Outlander cell settings in SimpBMS would be appreciated. I like fireworks b...

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
Compiled the Github code, uploaded it to the Teensy, problem fixed! Now All I need to do is get the ATTiny programmed, any help? As I understand this uses the Proximity Pilot signal and pulls in the changeover relay to power the boards from the battery rather than ignition supply and activates IN3(A...

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
It is down to the DCDC broadcasting messages that are inside the range of the module messages. I believe AOT runs multiple canbuses and does not combine everything on one bus. Hmmmm, the BMS board only has one CAN bus and from his schematics the bus also connects to the charger. I seem to recall re...

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
Last one for the night, promise! Poking in the code it seems like the settings are for 12 cells in series settings.Scells = 12; //Cells in series Via the menu I changed this to 80 and the !!! Series Cells Fault !!! has gone away! Now, just need to figure out what is the deal with the phantom 11th mo...

OK,so I removed the current sensor......no change. I snipped the wires for the termination resistor......no change. Then I disconnected the dcdc converter...... image.png Down to 10 cells and a Ready status :D However getting a !!! Series Cells Fault !!! which I will need to dig in to the code for.

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
Well it only bloomin' works - sort of! For some reason I have 11 modules registering, I am assuming that this is because I have left the connection to the termination resistor in CMU7. Should I remove it? image.png This is what I get in the debug.....and YES it is still that cold in the garage! imag...

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
Have you made any torque request to the inverter? HV is only reported correctly before a torque request is made, so it's useful more for pre-charge. Aha, yes I had my first test with the battery in the system. So I had a little blip of the throttle :D I have to say, you have done a fantastic job wi...

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
Some progress on the bench.
Wiring to the Charger is done and I am getting CAN data on the BMS bus, just need the BMS making now.
Have an odd issue with the VCU CAN misreporting HV (in red).
And YES, it is that cold in the garage!!

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
Ouch, at least those are low cost and easy to replace! Those mini 360 seem to have very variable quality, you get good ones and bad. I set mine up on the bench with a small load, and soak test for a bit. Yeah, I replaced it twice and showed the same problem. Dropped to 2.5V at the input and no outp...

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
Also spent some time at the weekend fault finding the VCU that I previously had working. The mini360 converter seems to have an issue that wasn't resolved when replacing it. Killed the optos and darlington arrays. Most annoying!!

Look what just arrived.......Now just hope the Teensy that I ordered materialises and that it is not a piece of paper that says Teensy 3.2 on it!
