Do you take off the negative or positive wire first? Easy. You want to be like Ghandi. You want to stay positive. You want to spend the least amount of time as you can being negative. That means the negative terminal is the first to be disconnected, and the last to be reconnected. I've never heard c...

Re: Project demystification - make openinverter.org more accessible
I've started rewriting the main page, preview it here: https://openinverter.org/wiki/Main_Page_New As-is it's a huge, huge improvement. Formatting is still "wall of text", but a few bolded or highlighted sections will fix that up. Still a bit techy. I'll take a swing at it later. I'm okay...

Where you getting the plates cut?
Send-Cut-Send and Oshcut will both do 1/4" steel I think, and for affordable prices (laser cut, I think?).

Re: Prius Gen 3 inverter suitable ?
How do you bypass the DC to DC converter? It would be nice to simply remove it from the inverter. I imagine it wont work as intended if I up my voltage from 220V nominal to 440V nominal. This is written out in detail on the forums somewhere, that, if I understood it well enough to explain to others...

Congrats/Condolences on the new place. It still has a garage, so, I'll take that as somewhat of a positive sign.
This answers why you've been so quiet.

Let's get this sumbitch rollin' so we celebrate the success all at once!

Re: Prius Gen2 w/opinverter community kit questions
Throwing the drive unit in the rear is pretty easy to do if you just weld up a De-Dion axle (3 pieces of box tubing) to the drive unit.
The DC-DC unit is probably not worth even attempting to fix, since you can buy a whole inverter from a junkyard for like $30. Just go yank a replacement.

How do you know if someone built their own car? Don't worry, their license plate will tell you.

There is a 200 digit headroom above potmax. So anything above potmax will be interpreted as potmax. Once you cross potmax+200 throttle immediately returns to 0 because we assume that there is a wire break and the throttle value does not reflect the drivers command anymore. Ahh. This is the piece I ...

I would get whatever is in the cheapest range, and works in the most common outlet in your area. You'll end up slinging it around to different places, I wouldn't invest in anything that needs special outlets. Higher power is nicer for production work, where time is money and you don't want to just l...

Good writeup on the cause/consequence. This is going to create a lot of troubleshooting problems in the future, or an intimidatingly-long "how to set up your throttle" instruction. ... why pick 3500? Why not 3300? Why not 3700? Why's 3500 the right spot? ... One thing I still haven't wrapp...

Do you even need a brake booster, those didn't have power brakes from the factory did they? They sure did. Normally a brake booster is against the firewall, right behind the brake pedal. Well, because this whole vehicle was an argument between the engineers and the management, with the engineers in...

Re: Doing useful things with the Prius Gen2 buck/boost converter
Via the A/C inverter it will just boost. Via MG1 it will just buck. You need an additional relay to connect the battery to the buck side while charging. At least then you don't need the extra current sensor because it will use the MG1 ones I think I mostly understand this, but not sure I'd apply it...
