Re: RARE 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit - Electric - $500 (Davis)
Oooh! Shoutout to my Clemson Engineering brethren! I graduated in 1992, and never saw the car, so I'm guessing the date range of '91-'93 would be closer to '93 as he originally stated. I was also in the sports car club at the time, so it is likely that this thing could have run the stadium/commuter ...

Re: 1984 Voltswagen Rabbit Prius Gen 3
why? diffs are diffs, they are all about the same size being they are all driving similar sized vehicles. also there is many different length vw axles available. One question I would have is how much in/out movement would VW shafts typically allow? I believe the cup type has quite a bit allowable t...

Re: 1984 Voltswagen Rabbit Prius Gen 3
Of course, this assumes that the width between the flanges ends up being close to the width of the stock VW transaxle. It seems against all odds that this would be within the same range. I suppose if it ended up being narrower, you could make spacers and use longer bolts, but if it ends up being wid...

...and while we are giving accolades, I'll say what I love most about Greg's channel is that I look at it and think, "I could probably do that as well". The level of fabrication is a step above what I've done in the past, but I believe thoroughly within reach of my skillset. Watching the c...

Re: 1984 Voltswagen Rabbit Prius Gen 3
You wrap the installed spring by moist rags and identify the spot where you must weaken the spring to get the chassis lower by an inch or so. Then you apply torch to heatup this spot to yellow and keep the rest of the spring wrapped and cooled. When you heat the spot on the spring enough you will s...

Re: 1984 Voltswagen Rabbit Prius Gen 3
Right, exactly... there's literally nothing to lose here. If the springs turn out too stiff, I think an alternative might be to look and see if the gas Rabbit has weaker springs than the diesel and grab a set of them (and probably cut them also). Otherwise you are looking at a significantly more exp...

Re: Newb Asks: Can We Find Nissan Leafs at Pick-n-Pull ?
Maybe they'd sell the whole stack for $400 this time around... that for sure would be worth grabbing. In the past, it's always made me wonder what various yards consider a "motor" to be from a LEAF... can we sneak out with everything up to and including the power converter box?

If I had a truck I'd bring one of my testing batteries down when I had to drive to GA next week. But alas, it's going to be another few months until I have a truck, by which point Greg will probably have finished his entire build. ;) I'd want to hold off on this offer anyway until I am ready to do ...

Re: 1984 Voltswagen Rabbit
I attempted to find a source to back up the 25 KW claim and could not do so. So, as Bigpie has said, it maybe worth driving it from Zombie first. I should say that I thought this claim came from one of RaglansElectricBaboon YouTube channel where someone had found that any Toyota inverter could drive...

Re: 1984 Voltswagen Rabbit
I think he means use the Prius inverter to spin a Camry transaxle, as the transaxle is more powerful than the Prius one and we're limited by motor power not inverter power. This would be my suggestion as well, but the Prius inverter should be driven with the OI dual motor board as the Zombie driven...

Re: 1984 Voltswagen Rabbit
If we are going to consider the Prius transaxle, I'd have to also take a look at the larger Camry/Highlander gearbox. That might be a nice performance upgrade over the Prius box - If I'm not mistaken the architecture is similar to a Gen 2 Prius box.

Re: 1984 Voltswagen Rabbit
Putting the LEAF stack into a VW Golf seems very tempting if you look at Bratitude's cabrio conversion. It seems with his stub axles, you might be able to use the factory VW axles. This combination might make for one of the easiest FWD conversions given that you need to do zero precision fabrication...

Re: Newb Asks: Can We Find Nissan Leafs at Pick-n-Pull ?
Interesting!... in the southeast, we more commonly seem to have Pull-A-Part - conveniently, one of the 3 Atlanta area yards is a few miles from my house. About 6 months back, the ATL South yard did have a LEAF, but oddly it disappeared quickly and I never got to pick over it. The South yard is on th...

Re: 1971 GMCe Lexus GS450H BMW 530e Tesla Model S powered Electruck [FINISHED]
I think a huge part of the difference on maintenance and repairs is the pressure to complete the job in a timely fashion. I somewhat lucked out that the head gasket on my daughter's gen 3 Prius started leaking about 2 weeks prior to her going out of the country for 2 weeks, so it made that knucklebu...

Re: whats the max kW on the em57 with the open inverter board?
That 302hp number makes me think you are referring to Arlin Sansome's CRX - he did use an EM61, not an EM57. I think the EM61 has a bit more power potential.

These Aftermarket types are available, and I am hoping one of them fits... Thanks A lot. This video might be useful to you... IIRC, Artur (@arturk) made his own coupler and spaced the holes for the urethane bushings per each end. I believe that the bushings he specifically used aren't available, bu...

I see a German copy of the book in the video, but since I see the info page is in English, is it correct to assume an English language version of the book will be available? (Update) Never mind... I did a bit of searching and see this link: https://tinyurl.com/2fzxdynn (Sorry to those in the future when this goes away) It looks like there is a second motor that bolts to the "bellhousing". I see a second set of 3 phase cables as well, so they must have ditched MG1 in favor of somethi...
