Re: IPace Front Motor Hacking

I know there have been a lot of other projects on the go so the big cat project has been on the back burner. In the last video there looked like good progress on the inverter reverse engineering and the next step might have been some test drop in boards. Wanted to check if there were any test board...

Re: Tesla Large Drive Unit (LDU) Motor Teardown and maintenance

I read about this 1.2million mile model S the other day - which shockingly has had 13 replacement motors! Seems even Tesla couldn't fix it! Would be interesting to know what kept failing on these - if it was the same coolant ingress problem? https://insideevs.com/news/699413/highest-mileage-tesla-mo...

Re: Water Pump Options

I like this pump very much: VW P/N 7L0965561D https://www.kmotorshop.com/en/article-d ... 4-22skv012 It is very convenient as its output has small angle relative to input. This makes it easier to fit into linear space. But as for reliability is concerned genuine Audi coolant pump is the toughest Th...

Re: Radiator Core Size...cooling capacity?

I've heard this a bunch from normal car guys, and the logic has never made sense to me. Coolant can't flow "too quickly to cool" through the radiator. The radiator is removing a certain amount of heat per second. It does that regardless of how fast you're pumping the coolant through it. I...

All I can tell you is its pretty clear Tesla is anti aftermarket therefore DIY. Most of the 5-10 seal makers I've contacted told of prior engagement with Tesla/Tier1 supplier on the coolant seal. One told me they stopped after finding out was in some kind of design competition to make one that does...

Re: Rear diff ratios with GS450h

For those running a GS450h transmission, what are your rear differential ratios? Mine is 2.73 and I'm thinking of something in the high 3's to get more low speed torque. I would work out your motor rpms at your maximum vehicle speed - then work back to see if you have headroom to increase the diff ...

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm putting the motor in a BMW E30 for reference. I just bought an open inverter board and will probably source an LDU from a local supplier. The lower cost and the greater database of support for the LDU greatly influenced my decision, as well as the hardware limit...

Sounds an interesting project, In my humble opinion - I think either mounting a leaf motor to your existing gearbox or just bolting in a Lexus gearbox will both prove plenty for moving your van. Just pick the option which you would find easier - and which is move available/common in your country. I ...

Your tractor 75hp at 2500rpm is 157lb/ft or 213Nm.

The EM57 max torque is something like 250Nm - but available from zero rpm.

Re: Audi A2 /w Prius Gen2 Transaxle & Inverter [FINISHED]

I'm not writing it off even with just MG2. Of course 28 kW isn't very performant but as a small commuter car it'll do. Heck, people used to drive around with 15 hp. Also the motor is barely heating up, so we're not pushing it here. On a side note I'll do a first TÜV visit on Wednesday. From this si...

Yeah, gearing would be a problem alright. I'd need a tall diff ratio, there is 2.88:1 available that would solve the issue, but more work and cost. I'd still go the 300h route if I can get the power output confirmed as it will be a better finished package at the end of the day. As long as it can pr...

I like the idea, in theory, of just modifying a hybrid by removing the ICE and fitting more batteries - however while the motor/driveshafts are sorted - from my 'limited' understanding/research they tend to be even more integrated with the rest of the vehicle electrical architecture - which for me w...

I guess its one of those tests that for me actually opens up more questions... The current limit on Damiens car is 500A from memory. 500A and 350v is thereabouts 175kw or 235hp. So that matches up fairly well with what he measures. The time it takes to get to peak power would be a concern for me. A...
