Mercedes/Smart onboard Chargers Reverse Engineering

Hi, In the hope we can add another option to the list of onboard chargers with Open Inverter/Zombieverter support, I've created a Wiki page for Mercedes-Benz Chargers , which includes anything I've managed to find online so far for Mercedes plug-in hybrid vehicles, EQ vehicles, and Smart ED and EQ v...

Re: MEB Chargers

I'm new, just joining the fun. I have a VW charger (5QE915682AF) and a 60 pin connector (5Q0 906 379 ) ordered from eBay. I have oscilloscopes, and lab PSUs and 26 years embedded software experience. Just need to get me the can thingamybob now. I believe Damien has progressed fairly well with the x...

Re: MEB Chargers

Speaking of coding, an interesting tidbit about the e-Up! chargers, earlier software versions were apparently only configured to run at 3.6 kW on a single phase, even though it will do 7.2 kW on two. There is a setting to change to make it do 7.2 kW on a single phase using long coding (coding mentio...

Re: MEB Chargers

Looking through more of that data on that German site, they also include a lot of options for customising settings on the e-Up!, but a weird thing that was noted at the bottom of this page (in German), is that via ODBEleven or VCDS, there is a passcode to access the e-Up! charger, "20103",...

There's a whole bunch of stuff that has been logged and put up on that site for the e-Up!

Here's some more work that someone has done to map out some of the MEB functions, unfortunately not charging, but it may by useful.

Re: MEB Chargers

Hi,

I don't know if these will be useful, but I found a site where someone had worked out some of the CAN messages for the e-Up!/Mii/Citigo e chargers, including the locking mechanism. Details are available here.

Re: Leaving the forum

It's a sad day indeed when one of the biggest contributors is bowing out of the forum. Unfortunately, I fall more into the boat of lacking the coding skills, understanding of CAN, and the some various other bits that could contribute to furthering the Open Inverter/EVBMW cause. The best I can do is ...

Re: MEB Chargers

Hi, I don't currently have the ability to test, but based on part the part numbers I've been compiling on the Wiki , I suspect that there are 4 major versions of the VAG chargers: - xxx915681xx - Typically 7.2 kW/dual phase chargers - xxx915682xx - Typically 11 kW/3 phase chargers - xxx915684xx - Ty...

Well now we have CAN logs so all thats left is to work out the pinout and connector part numbers and sourcing. Any takers? Sorry, I had it sent to my parents place, and haven't had access to it. Will start playing with it when I'm there next in 3 weeks. I see you've already made some progress... :)...

I have the 5QE915684AD version on the way, first step is to work out the pinouts and talk to it. I might try with a spare BMU I have and VAGCOM.

MEB Chargers

Hi, I've been considering getting one of the MEB chargers, possibly out of an Audi e-tron (single AC input), Porsche Taycan (dual AC input) to use in a project. I've found a few variants across the range which start with the part number 5QE915684 (earlier ones like the e-Golf or e-Up! started with 5...

Re: Vehicle to Load (V2L)

Yes should be possible though I'm not sure about 22 kW. I built a charger based on Prius components and while the power electronics a definitely capable of 22 kW or more, the control loop isn't. I've taken it up to 15 kW but then "dents" from rectified 3-phase become so harsh that the bre...

Re: Vehicle to Load (V2L)

I have a couple of use cases for such a device, to pull power out of a converted vehicle, but it's also looking more and more like I'll be able to use a Gen 3 Prius C/Yaris/Auris inverter with a dual gen 3 board (if there is one to fit the Prius C inverter) and use it to replace the onboard charger ...

Vehicle to Load (V2L)

Hi, With Damien's boards for the Prius inverter, I believe they can be configured to use MG1 for charging, but I was wondering if it's possible for it to work the other way around, can the MG1 interface be used to provide power, similar to the V2L systems on new vehicles like the Hyundai Ioniq 5? I'...

Hi,

This may be a silly question, but is there a way to automate the FOC tuning?

Obviously, the resolver connection would need to be correct to begin work (as shown in the FOC tuning video) -

I've just ordered the motor set and am looking for an inverter to play with myself. The main motor is a well documented EM57, and the 2021 and newer models will have an EM47 that is smaller and more powerful. There are 2WD and 4WD configurations. I've gathered some part numbers: - Inverter (likely F...

Hm... or you could just fit L2 socket to your bumper and routed the wires behind it. Then you would use a Tesla charger for some 3phase power :). I don't mind enlarging the hole where the J1772 socket is to fit a Type 2 socket. Maybe you could first connect wires directly to inverter where you have...

There may be some enlarging required. I'll confirm once I get my hands on a suitable socket.

Re: Mitsubishi i-MiEV charger upgrade

Knowing that there is charging possible using the right firmware on a hacked Prius inverter, I'm wondering if that would be another option? Unfortunately, it's also probably a little tall to fit into the OEM location, but may be able to emulate the OEM OBC.
