Re: Porsche 996 Smal S drive unit from Elon

I notice that your previous picture is the front SDU, and these most recent ones are the rear SDU. Did you change design or have I missed something?

Re: Porsche 996 Smal S drive unit from Elon

Look on grabcad for my 3d scan of the 996 engine bay. Saves a lot of heavy lifting and figuring out of angles and fitment! I struggled to make the model S rear fit so went for the front one (which is also very tight).

Re: IPace Front Motor Hacking

Nice one. It will be great to have another option. This is a consideration for the 911 if the SDU doesn't fit.

I took the opportunity recently to 3D scan a front motor, uploaded by Jamie.

Re: IPace Front Motor Hacking

I would like the width and diameter at the 'fattest' point.
I'm trying to determine how much modification would be required to fit it into my rx8 subframe

Does anyone have dimensions of the front or rear motors?
Thanks

GS450h Rx-8 project for sale (UK)

Lack of time, money and willpower have made me decide to give up on my project.
This is a fully built, and MOT'd project. The highlights are:

GS450h drivetrain with custom propshaft going to stock differential.
Outlander charger
Zombie Controller
36kwh kangoo battery pack (working with zombie ...

Re: MG Drive Unit Reverse Engineering

Do you have some basic dimensions for the drive unit? I'm wondering how easily it would fit in the subframe of a RWD car.

Re: Niro / Kona PTC heater

I've been playing around with the heater with some success.
I got myself a 400v 1a power supply and that did the trick. It starts to work from ~250V
What i've got so far in terms of the understanding the data:

Messages 0x140 and 0x141 come from the heater.

0x140: byte 1 reports the heater temp. It ...

Re: Project RX-8 w/ GS450h Drivetrain

My only other alternative would be to shorten the lexus shaft, but keeping the lexus end, and then have a coupler of some description which connects the rear of the shaft to the diff.

Re: Project RX-8 w/ GS450h Drivetrain

I understand the issue but there are a few mitigating circumstances, the main one being that the u-joint will almost never be at a different angle from its set angle as the diff angle doesn't change (much) in relation to the transmission owing to the PPF holding it in place.

Plus there will only ...

Re: Project RX-8 w/ GS450h Drivetrain

I've got a gs450h prop shaft, and an mx-5 prop shaft.
I will chop the end off the gs450h shaft and put on the diff-end of the mx-5 shaft.
The gs450h has the slip joint in the middle which will solve one issue. I've no idea where i'll mount the middle section...but i'll figure it out.
The only ...

This morning i took some logs from the the heater CAN bus on my 2020 Kona by tapping directly to the heater CAN. Attached are the logs.
I powered up my test heater with 12v, and received the 0x140 and 0x141 message IDS from it, confirming that it's communicating, and confirming that the ...

Re: Project RX-8 w/ GS450h Drivetrain

Thanks. In addition to triple checking alignment, I've decided to try to source a gs450h shaft, and have it modified to fit the rx8 diff. As it has a centre bearing, it should help to reduce vibrations and offset the front-back movement issue. I chose not to go this route to begin with as there is ...
