Re: Tesla's NACS and the Future of Fast Charging in North America

I'm too cheap to pay the hundreds of dollars for a copy of the DIN70121 standard (Or IEC 61851-1) unless I know for certain there's documentation on the sequence of communication IEC & ISO standards can be had very cheaply from Estonia https://www.evs.ee/en e.g. IEC61851-1 for 36 Euros, or brow...

Availabilitywise, the Lumissil chip would probably be a good choice if data can be found. there is someone on this forum that is working on it under NDA - not ideal but they say there will be a public release. https://openinverter.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=55334#p55334 Though long-term, harvesting ...

I hope if the chip-shortage is over, it should be possible to find the old or the new for below 10 Euros in small batch quantities. I'm not aware thatthe QCA was ever available outside of Aliexpress boards, and those seem to have got rather pricy Finding specialist chips like this in small qtys is ...

Availabilitywise, the Lumissil chip would probably be a good choice if data can be found. Though long-term, harvesting ar7420s from powerline adapters may be better, as you're not dependent on Mouser continuing to stock them I don't know if the AR has a SPI interface, bur if not it should be possibl...

I think the CCM is the CCS gateway module for rapid charging, located under the dash near the steering column.
There is a bit of info and pics in the fast charging thresd.

I wonder if you could use an external capacitor to give it an occasional "charge" to reset the timeout.

Re: Drawing power out of CCS port (V2x, inverse charging, bidirectional CCS)

Very keen to try this on my Kona, too busy atm, but already have the Aliexpress QCA borads and a CCS plug. An additional question to the above - once contactors are closed, is there a timeout, or do they stay closed indefinitely? By "simulated precharging", does that mean you need to actua...

Re: BMW i3 CCS/charge port controller

Yeah, Android has had this feature for a while. Not surprising to see it popping up elsewhere. Using the mac (and only the mac) to authenticate payment for a charge seems like asking for trouble if you ask me. Especially since some of the docs I've read seem to imply that all of the chargers (and b...

Re: BMW i3 CCS/charge port controller

Randomized Macs? A MAC is always unique. The first part is fixed and is coupled to VAG or BMW etc. The last part is de serial. On a network all MACs need tobe unique. Unique is not the same thing as consistent in each session. Nowadays the MAC doesn't travel far through a network so global uniquene...

Re: Open source CCS using AR7420

How much of this work would be applicable for talking to a car to get it to close its CCS contactors for V2H? If the car supports V2H over CCS then yes. That's not the focus of my project though, I'm interested in the vehicle side. I'm told that at least one car (ID4) can be convinced to close its ...

Re: Open source V2G using AR7420

I think you may be better off looking at the QCA7005 modules.
AFAICS the AR7420 is Homeplug, not Hompleplug Greenphy - I don't know what the difference is.
The QCA7005 has different firmware versions for EVSE and car side, and likely also different from powerline modem versions

Re: Hyundai Kona CCS controller

Any V2H/V2G type application is going to be doing way less current than the car running or rapid charging, so the answer is simple - just put fuses in line with whatever you are connecting. This can easily be done inside the CCS connector, as we'd typically be looking in the low tens of amps range. ...

Re: Hyundai Kona CCS controller

My primary reason for not persuing this (yet) is that I don't know how easily any fault conditions can be reset if detected - in particular the isolation monitoring. From what I currently know, I don't think it monitors the voltage at the DCFC pins on the connector side of the CCS contactors - the D...

Re: BMW i3 CCS/charge port controller

My Kona has at least 2.5m of wiring from port to controller, and a branch off to the OBC. PLC comms is designed to work over household mains wiring, so ought to be fairly robust, though the car implementation may be more sensitive - I heard a third-hand comment that "the power level used was a ...
